This page answers the questions we get most: how we verify pricing, what our scores mean, how affiliate relationships work, and how to correct something we got wrong.
Evidence freshness
If a tool's "checked on" date is older than 7 days, it's queued for re-verification. We publish the date on every review page so you can judge freshness yourself.
What our scores mean
Editorial score (5-point scale)
This is our product rating based on workflow fit, output quality, and operating cost. It is not a lab benchmark. External benchmark results are displayed separately and apply only to the exact model and configuration shown.
Affiliate relationships
We may earn a commission when you click certain links and make a purchase. This is how we fund the free directory, free Stack Audit, and free Keep/Cut Weekly email.
Affiliate status never changes editorial rankings, scores, or "worth it" verdicts. A tool that pays us commission is treated identically to one that doesn't. We label affiliate links clearly and keep them separate from our recommendation text.
What we don't do
- We don't sell rankings or "featured placement" to vendors
- We don't fabricate test scores, traffic counts, or user numbers
- We don't use AI-generated prose in our reviews
- We don't accept payment for coverage or positive reviews
- We don't set login walls on public reviews
Corrections
If we got something wrong — a price, a feature, a policy, a date — tell us. We verify corrections against official sources before publishing.

Testing protocol
When we test tools, we use a consistent protocol: exact input, defined output criteria, real tasks (not demos), and we report what failed — not just what worked. Our testing protocol is public at /legal/testing-protocol.html.
Community reports
Readers can submit test reports through our community page. We verify each report against our protocol before publishing. Reports identify the reporter's role, tool version, task, and date. Vague endorsements don't clear verification.
