Short answer: worth it if you produce images for real work several times a week and the free/cheap alternatives can't hold your style. Not worth it for occasional fun, or if your images need legible text in them (Midjourney's weakest area). If you generate fewer than ~30 keeper images a month, try a cheaper tool's paid tier first.
What the paid plan actually buys
- Fast GPU hours — generations that don't wait in the slow queue
- Unlimited relax-mode generations on Standard and above
- Stealth mode (private images) on the higher tiers

A one-week test
Run your five real briefs (client mood board, thumbnails, concept art). Count keepers per 20 generations and whether queue waits interrupted you. If keepers are rare or you never hit the queue, don't pay.
When it is NOT worth it
- Your images contain marketing text — Ideogram is the stronger pick
- You generate casually — free tiers elsewhere cover it
- You need commercial certainty — read current terms first via our review page
