Quick answer
Support work has four AI-shaped drafting jobs: a reply built from the real ticket thread, help-center and saved-reply copy kept current, a queue sorted faster than a person can read it, and an escalation call turned into a written record. None replaces your ticketing system, and no assistant should be the system of record for a commitment you made to a customer.
First, what this guide does not cover
Dedicated help-desk platforms — the Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, and Help Scout category — are not in this directory's tracked inventory, so nothing here depends on them. That is a real limitation: much of the AI a support team would buy ships inside the help desk itself, as suggested replies, intent detection, and quality scoring against your own ticket history. Price what you already have first.
What follows is the layer around the help desk: what gets written, how it gets routed, and what the team finds three weeks later.
The shortlist, by job

4.8 and 4.7/5 editorialThe drafting job: rewrite a macro so it stops sounding canned, turn a rambling ticket thread into a clear three-paragraph reply, or cut a long answer down to the one action the customer needs. Paste the real thread and one example of a reply your team likes. Neither should hold a customer commitment your ticketing system does not also have.
Notion AI
4.3/5 editorialThe written layer of support: help-center articles, internal runbooks, and the saved replies that stop the same question arriving twice. Where the assistant and the document live in the same place, keeping answer copy current is a smaller job. Weaker if the help center lives elsewhere — a second home for the same article is how stale answers start.
Airtable AI
4.2/5 editorialAI inside a structured base: summarising a record, categorising an incoming item, drafting text in a cell. The fit is triage at volume — a shared queue or escalation tracker sorted faster than a person wants to read it. It does not ingest tickets on its own, so the value depends on getting the queue in cleanly first.
Zapier AI
4.4/5 editorialAutomation across the apps you already run: route a request to the right owner, post a summary into a team channel, create a follow-up record when a ticket sits untouched. The unglamorous pattern — moving information between systems so nobody copies it by hand. Model task volume before choosing a plan; chatty workflows consume tasks quickly.
Fireflies.ai
4.2/5 editorialRecords, transcribes, and summarises calls, with a searchable archive across them. For support the value concentrates in escalation and renewal calls, where what was promised matters more than the transcript. Recording consent is a prerequisite, and a summary is not a minute record until a human has read it.
Where the four jobs rank
- Reply drafting — highest return. Starting from the real thread removes the blank-page minute on every ticket.
- Help-center and macro upkeep — high return, compounding. The work nobody schedules is the work that reduces ticket volume.
- Queue triage — moderate, depends on clean data. Half-migrated fields produce confident mis-sorting.
- Escalation capture — modest per call, valuable when a renewal goes sideways.
What to keep out of these tools
Support queues attract the material these tools handle worst: personal identifiers, order and payment details, health or financial circumstances volunteered in a free-text ticket, and account credentials. Check the data-use and training terms for the tier you are on — free and consumer tiers commonly differ from business tiers. Our guides on whether AI tools are safe for business data and what happens to your data when you delete an account cover the questions, and writing a company AI usage policy is the piece to write first.
Two rules for support: never paste a password, session token, or API key into a chat box to debug it, and redact payment and identity fields before ticket text leaves your help desk.
Before you pay for anything
Run each finalist on one real ticket in your own queue and record time-to-reply, corrections needed, and what the plan costs at your actual volume — not the demo's. Our free scorecard gives you the template, including the terms and privacy columns that decide most support purchases.
Frequently asked questions
Can an AI assistant answer tickets on its own?
Only inside a help desk that ships that feature, and only with escalation rules you have written and can audit. A general assistant drafting a reply is a tool for the agent, not a replacement for the agent. Every commitment that leaves your queue should carry a human who read it first.
Will AI drafting make our replies sound generic?
It does if agents prompt with nothing but the customer's question. Give the assistant the ticket thread, the account tier, and one example of a reply your team is happy with, then edit the draft. The output inherits the voice you supply.
Is it safe to paste customer tickets into these tools?
It depends on the tier you are on and the contract behind the ticket, not on the model. Consumer and free tiers commonly differ from business tiers on training and retention. Redact identifiers and payment details, and keep anything covered by a customer contract out unless the plan's terms allow it.
